What is dead may never die. The Ironborn said this in Game of Thrones, and while it was essentially a motto/creed that defined their entire way of life, it is also true relative to certain rumors and the Dallas Cowboys. Basically the same thing, obviously.
You are aware that the Cowboys have been connected to Maxx Crosby at several turns before. Even those of you who have zip codes underneath rocks know it by now.
Crosby is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL and you can never have enough of those.
In that sense it makes sense for him to be connected to anyone so long as the Las Vegas Raiders are willing to trade him.
The Raiders are clearly willing to trade him. We know this because they literally did trade him before he failed his physical with the Baltimore Ravens. It is hard to know whether all of the proverbial toothpaste is back in the tube, but credit to all involved for trying to get as much back in as possible.
The Maxx Crosby rumors are probably never going away
Last week saw a number of significant changes in the NFL as A.J. Brown was finally traded to the New England Patriots and Myles Garrett was sent to the Los Angeles Rams.
The reigning AFC Champions and one of the top favorites to beat whoever wins that conference this year in the Super Bowl loading up all the more has made for interesting conversation. Can the Patriots get back and actually win it all? Should anybody even try given what the Rams have on their team? If anyone does want to give it a go, what is it going to take? Maybe something like Maxx Crosby?
These are questions that NFL front offices are going to have to reckon with and obviously the Dallas Cowboys are among them. It stands to reason that their willingness to give up what the Raiders may want for Crosby, which is probably less than the two first-round picks Baltimore originally gave up, could depend on how close the Cowboys feel they are as the season moves on towards the trade deadline.
In the aftermath of last week’s frenzy different names were thrown out as pieces that may still be moved before the trade deadline in the middle of the season. As ESPN noted, the Cowboys could very well be in the mix for Crosby if things break the right way.
Crosby might stick with the Raiders all year at this point, but if he’s going to get traded at all, we’re probably looking at something in-season ahead of the deadline. If a team such as the Cowboys, Bills, Bears or Patriots finds itself in contention and in need of an impact pass rusher, things could get interesting here again.
For what it’s worth the Cowboys have already dealt away their fourth- and fifth-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft and the better of the two first-round picks that they own. Not that Crosby would go for a fourth- or fifth-round pick individually, but just for the sake of context.
They could always include 2028 draft capital to get something across the goal line, again it would all depend on how close the Cowboys are at a hypothetical point in time. It goes without saying that how Donovan Ezeiruaku and Malachi Lawrence, among others, are playing matters significantly as well.
Would you want to see the Cowboys re-explore this? Or are you fine letting what is dead remain dead, so to speak?
