Last week, Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß made some waves by saying that his club was not necessarily a favorite to win the Champions League this season.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a longtime compatriot of Hoeneß, does not agree with his pal.
“No. For once, I disagree with Uli Hoeneß when he says we’re the Hoffenheim of the Champions League. We’re never underdogs. We may not always be the favourites, but that’s not a bad thing. If you look at the two quarter-final matches against Inter
last season, that simply wasn’t our best level. Nevertheless, we could have reached the semi-final against Barcelona – and perhaps even the final,” Rummenigge told Deutschen Presse-Agentur (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We have to approach the competition with respect. You can’t act arrogantly, otherwise you’ll quickly get a few slaps in the face. If we approach the competition with focus and the necessary humility, we can go very far. We can show right away that we’re capable of beating the Club World champions.
