On the final day of this forever-long international break, Morgan Rogers collected a lovely assist in England’s 3-0 win over Czech Republic, setting up Harry Kane for the first of his two goals on his record-equaling 125th appearance for the Three Lions. Legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton had held that record for over 35 years; Kane will surely pass him the next we have an international break, and then pile on plenty more considering the lack of succession England have at his position. (Ashley Cole
and Frank Lampard are both in the top 10 all-time for England appearances as well, with 107 and 106, respectively.)
Rogers did get the start from Thomas Tuchel in this one — just as last week in the reverse fixture against the Czechs — and would complete the full-90. Overall, he’d finish the break with four appearances, two starts, one goal, and one assist. And zero injuries. Decent work. Hopefully not too tiring.
And speaking of legends, Lionel Messi made his 208th and final Argentina appearance last night (for real this time), in a 3-0 friendly win over Benin. Messi would of course get on the scoresheet as well, for the 126th, and final time. He also set up the other two goals. Maybe he shouldn’t be retiring just yet from the national team.
Emi Martínez got to watch it all from goal once again — even making a couple saves — while Valentín Barco was an unused substitute.
