We have seen a lot more of Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals offense going under center so far early in camp.
The results have not been encouraging. It feels like there is immediate pressure the majority of the time they are using play action fakes from under center.
In the past, Burrow has discussed how much more he likes playing from shotgun. He says it gives him
an opportunity to see and diagnose what is in front of him. The early results during training camp are likely to keep him feeling similarly. We will see if this is something the Bengals continue to stick with.
Warren Sharp discussed the difference in performance from under center to shotgun for Burrow. The Bengals are top 10 in expected points added, success rate, and yards per attempt when in shotgun. When under center, those ranks drop to some of the worst numbers in the NFL.
It makes sense that Burrow and the Bengals ultimately end up switching back to shotgun each season.
