Top rumor of the day: Kairi Sane’s future
A lot of wrestling fans and analysts thought Kairi Sane might sign with AEW after she was released by WWE, yet the Pirate Princess remains a free agent.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp heard from people in AEW who said the idea of Kairi signing there in time for last month’s All In event was “really never plausible,” even though she’s had talks with the promotion.
There is apparently “nothing imminent”
when it comes to Sane possibly signing with AEW. The direction where this “was supposed to go” is Kairi signing a dual contract with AEW and Stardom, and there is still “hope” that will happen. AEW is said to be “on board” with the idea, with the hold up probably being Stardom’s financial situation.
Sapp goes on to indicate “there are other companies” outside the United States that have tried to make “major plays” to sign Kairi. However, Marigold is not one of those companies, as they cannot afford her price. It sounds like TNA isn’t willing to pay her that amount of money either.

- While discussing Britt Baker’s lengthy absence from AEW, people close to Baker told Fightful Select that she initially took herself off the road. She was willing to return, so it’s not like she refused to work for two years. It seems doubtful that the full story on what exactly happened between her and AEW will be told any time soon.
- Even though Will Ospreay spoke on Dynamite about expanding the United Empire into AEW, Sean Ross Sapp hasn’t heard that it’s happening imminently. It’s possible that Will was just talking out of his ass, because he pretty much has freedom to say whatever he wants in his AEW promos. Even so, Sapp speculated that Ilja Dragunov would be a good fit for Ospreay’s AEW faction, if it ever comes to fruition.
- President Nick Khan told The Varsity podcast that AAA is “seeing significant audience growth” thanks to WWE “intentionally” deciding to air it on YouTube outside of Mexico.
- On this week’s episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy said Bray Wyatt had a “very interesting” relationship with Vince McMahon. Hardy described it as “almost like a father/son relationship, in some ways.”
- Speaking of McMahon, The Coach and Bro Show’s Vince Russo said McMahon’s famous “Bret screwed Bret” line following the Montreal Screwjob was not planned or written for him. Vince came up with it on the spot.
- Per Fightful Select, former MLW Women’s Featherweight champion Janai Kai has signed a deal with AEW, but sources could not confirm if is a full-time contract or pay per appearance.
