In this space, we look at the snap-to-hold operation on field goals and extra points. We only have 3 that we’re looking at this week, so it’ll probably be a quick one. No blocked field goals to break down like we did last week.
As we always do, we’ll start with the snap location for the holder. How did it look this week?
The exact same as last week in terms of breakdown. Two up and into the body, one over the hold spot. Let’s look at the individual kicks, with the snap-to-hold operation slowed down to 30%
speed.
Kick 1: Extra Point (Made)
Snap up and to the body of Whelan. Clean catch and hold. No wind and extra point distance, so we get a slight lean forward and away from the kicker on the hold.
It’s worth noting that the block last week was a result of Donovan Jennings being late out of his stance. Travis Glover is in that spot this week, and he is able to make himself big and not allow pressure from his outside shoulder.
One other thing to keep an eye on: Karl Brooks is the outside man on the left side of your screen. He’s slightly late to react to the snap and doesn’t force Zyon McCollum [27] wide, which allows McCollum to bend the edge and almost get a hand on the ball.
Kick 2: 58 Yard Field Goal (Made)
Great snap. Up and over the hold spot (slightly into the body, but I’m counting it as over the hold spot). With the distance of the kick, the lean on the hold is slightly more forward than we saw on the extra point.
Brooks is on the right side of the screen. Once more McCollum is looking to bend the edge, but Brooks gets a hand on him and is able to disrupt him just enough.
Good snap. Good hold. Booming kick from Smack.
Kick 3: Extra Point (Made)
Good snap, up and into the body. Good hold by Whelan. Smack splits the uprights.
Once again, McCollum is on the edge vs Brooks (right side of the screen). Brooks has seen this movie before. With Belton slowing down the gap between him and Brooks, Brooks turns and gives McCollum a nice knock, sending him to the turf.
