Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about the successful pipeline of Mizzou QBs to backup NFL QBs. First, Chase Daniel. Then, Blaine Gabbert. Now, Drew Lock. Next… Brady Cook?
Last night, Drew Lock joined Daniel and Gabbert in prestigious company as former Tigers to win the big game as backup QBs, as Lock’s Seahawks throttled the Patriots 29-13. Based on how strong the Seahawks’ defense was, you get the feeling Lock could’ve played and led Seattle to victory.
Would we rather our former QBs be leading the charge to
a Super Bowl ring? Sure. But it’s still nice to see our True Sons succeed. Congrats, Drew, who has had an especially hard year after the passing of his father Andy in April. And congrats to Yasir Durant and Marcus Bryant for helping the Patriots get as far as they did.

By beating South Carolina, Missouri took another step towards making the NCAA Tournament. The win will likely end up just as a Quad 2 win, as it’s unlikely the Gamecocks sneak over the 75th ranking in the NET. But with almost no non-conference schedule to help them out, the Tigers are solely relying on their SEC performance to speak for their inclusion in March Madness. And the road from here on out does not get any easier.
As cliche as it sounds… just win, baby. Doesn’t need to look good. Just needs to get over the line.
After scoring over 80 points in three straight games, Mizzou’s offense was dragged much closer to Earth on Sunday. Grace Slaughter endured the heaviest struggles, missing 10 of her first 11 field goal attempts and finishing just 4-of-15 from the field (26.7%), scoring just 10 points. That tied for the third-lowest single-game shooting percentage of her career on at least 10 shot attempts.
A setback for the Tigers, one that they won’t have too much time to bounce back from if they have postseason hopes. (Editor’s note: It’s important to note that Georgia is a good team who should be ranked but somehow isn’t, and the Tigers were without post player Jordana Reisma for a second straight game as she deals with a lower leg injury. With a very short bench and no post — the other post, Linthacum, has yet to play this season — there’s only so much they can do; they have 9 healthy players).
- Over at Rock M+, True is diving into Mizzou Football positions one-by-one and the basketball board is full of portal talk and post-game analysis from South Carolina.
