When Chelsea Green won the Interim WWE women’s championship at SummerSlam, it was a genuine feel good moment that had the entire crowd on their feet in applause. The pop for it was legendary, and instantly became a career defining moment for a wrestler who has struggled to break through to the top.
And then she got injured.
During a tag team match against Fatal Influence, Green broke her orbital bone. WWE played with the idea of stripping her of the title as part of the storyline but ultimately decided
she could keep it if she could get cleared to compete within a month. She bedazzled a mask and loaded up to do just that within just a couple of weeks.
Her first challenge came in the form of a wrestler known for breaking faces — Nia Jax.
Don’t worry, though, Green came into Mexico City as women’s champion and, thanks to an assist from her best pal Tiffany Stratton, will be leaving the same:
The match was a bit sloppy at points, including right there at the finish, but the important part is Green retained and she should be moving on from this whole thing with Jax.
