Thomas Müller, Bayern Munich’s long-serving homegrown talent and fan favorite, remains dearly missed at his old club. He’s now playing for Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS yet there are voices that wish
for his return home. Bayern president Herbert Hainer can imagine the 36-year-old returning for work, even suggesting that Thomas replaces him.
“He can work in operations for us, he can become an ambassador, he can certainly become my successor or whoever is president after me,” Hainer said (Abendzeitung as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “He knows the club inside out. He’s an intelligent, smart guy, and he now has experience abroad. So there are many things that make him a good fit. His time abroad will make him even more mature, international, and experienced. And I would like him to be able to return to FC Bayern in some capacity.”
Müller is also loved by Vancouver as much as Bayern fans love him, though it remains to be seen whether he continues to play given that the player has signed a deal to become a commentator for the FIFA World Cup in about seven months’ time.
