Earlier this week, we posed two simple questions now that the NBA Trade season has begun. The first asked if Dallas Mavericks fans thought the team would make a trade before the deadline.
Nearly 9 in 10
voting fans think Dallas will do something before the deadline. Given that Dallas has made something happen for 7 straight years, I tend to agree. Dallas has many functional, tradable pieces that could help teams vying for the NBA Championship this season.
Which of course led directly to the next question: who do fans think is going to be traded?
Anthony Davis is the runaway winner, but this poll was closed before last night’s stupid hand/finger injury that we don’t know what happened or how long he’ll be out for. If it’s not anything major, then perhaps he still does get traded, and I’m of the belief that should happen as soon as possible, since the guy seems to get hurt every fifth or sixth game.
Klay Thompson would very clearly help any team in need of shooting and if Dallas were to move him, thier offensive efficiency would collapse. He is one of the only players on the Dallas roster who provides any level of spacing.
I also think Daniel Gafford makes his way to the Indiana Pacers somehow. His contract this season is so affordable considering his potential output as a starter. Dallas should find him a home where he can be a starter.
There’s a lot that could happen in the coming weeks. The trade deadline isn’t until February 5th, so we’ll see what happens and when. The Davis injury could really mess with plans, but Dallas really has to do something. They cana’t be this bad of a team with as high a payroll as they have. We’ll have a lot to sort through in terms of rumors and chatter this next month.
