Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane left the team’s Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter with a knee injury. He was soon ruled out of a return to the game, then head coach Jeff Hafley said after the game he was not “optimistic” about the injury. On Monday morning, that lack of optimism was confirmed with Achane’s injury confirmed.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Achane sustained a torn ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Achane was the center of the Dolphins’ offense this year as they work their way through a rebuild. As Miami focused on the development of their younger players, including rookie wide receivers Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman, Jr., Achane provided a veteran stabilizing presence to the attack. Miami will now have to figure out how to replace the man around who they built their entire offensive system.
Miami’s running back group is now headlined by Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II. Wright missed the team’s Week 3 game with a stringer and foot injury. Wide receiver Malik Washington was used as a running back to provide relief to Gordon following Achane’s injury.
Running backs Jarquez Hunter and Carlos Washington, Jr., are on Miami’s practice squad. The team could also look to sign a free agent to provide depth at the position.
Achane will likely be on a timeline to return during training camp or just before the regular season in 2027, depending on how he recovers from surgery.
