The Eagles have had little-to-no consistency at the quarterback position this season, and are turning to newcomer Joe Milton as their starter in Week 9 against the Giants. With Milton taking the lead, Tanner McKee has been demoted — something head coach Nick Sirianni spoke about earlier in the week. Sirianni stopped short of confirming that McKee would be QB2, and that may be more due to him being questionable with a cracked rib rather than his performance the past three weeks.
The Eagles offense has been largely disappointing, with no more than a few bright spots through eight games. Still, it was surprising that the team would turn to a quarterback who has only been in Philly for three weeks, rather than give McKee more opportunities to get something going. Sirianni would only say that turning to Milton was a decision he thought was for the best of the team, and acknowledged how tough it must be for McKee, while highlighting how much of a pro he’s been with the transition.
The QB depth for their Week 9 game against the Giants will include Joe Milton as the starter, Tanner McKee as the backup, and rookie Cole Payton. Payton could move up to QB2 if McKee is unable to play in the future, which might end up being the team’s ultimate goal, to give someone with future potential some opportunities to get game experience.
