Rutgers was able to get back to its winning ways over the weekend during a series against Bryant at Bainton Field in Piscataway. After losing four of their previous six games, the Scarlet Knights took two out of three against the Bulldogs.
Game One
The Scarlet Knights jumped out to a quick lead on Friday in game one of the series and held on for a 6-3 win.
Charlie Meglio got the scoring started with an RBI double in the bottom of the first before Tristan Salinas crushed a two-run homer. Rutgers held a 5-0 lead
after two innings and that was plenty for the combination of Dallin Harrison and Vincent Borghese.
Harrison got the start on the mound, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings while striking out seven. Borghese finished it out and gave up just one hit over the final 4 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Peyton Bonds added an RBI single in the second inning. Ryan Jaros and Joey Erace finished with two hits and one run scored each.
Game Two
The offense stayed hot on Saturday in game two as Rutgers scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings on the way to a 14-0 win in seven innings.
Rutgers got two in the first inning as Trey Wells singled in a run before later scoring on a wild pitch. Peyton Bonds and Tristan Salinas each hit their third home runs of the season during a six-run second inning. Bonds would later double home a run. He finished 4-for-4 with 5 RBI and three runs scored.
Meglio drive in two runs as well while Salinas had three RBI.
The offense was the story, but Zack Konstantinovsky was dominant on the mound once again for his third win of the year. He struck out five in five innings while giving up two hits and walking just one.
Game Three
Rutgers could not complete the sweep in a back-and-forth, 5-4 loss in the finale on Sunday.
After Bryant took a 1-0 lead, Rutgers answered right away with a Julius Rosado sac fly in the second inning. The Scarlet Knights went ahead in the third on a ground out from Trey Wells. The Bulldogs scored three in the top of the fourth, but Rutgers answered once again.
Joey Erace added an RBI single before a Jaros sac fly tied the game in the fifth inning. Bryant went ahead for good on a Gavin Greger single in the top of the seventh.
