Lamine Yamal has been asked about his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or yet again in a new interview and has talked up his hopes of landing the prestigious trophy.
The Barcelona teenager is among the favorites for the Golden Ball and says that the way he plays excites fans and ensures he’s in with a shot of being crowned the best player in the world.
“The Ballon d’Or, as you rightly say, is the trophy that rewards the best player of the year, the exceptional player, the one you enjoy watching play,
to the point of watching a match just for him. I think that’s what he is, an exceptional player. It has nothing to do with the number of goals he scores or anything like that,” he told France Football.
“I think of Messi or Ronaldinho when the Ballon d’Or comes to mind. They were different players who make you smile when you watch them play,”
“I think all the fans know my strengths. I go out on the pitch, I enjoy myself, I play well, and I play my way. Luckily, I’ve also been able to win many titles with Barça , and I’ve also won the most important title, the World Cup , with my national team. But beyond that, I think my playing style is my greatest strength; it’s what makes me different.”
Yamal also says that coming off a season where he won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona as well as the World Cup with Spain will also help his Ballon d’Or hopes.
“I think all of that makes me a good candidate. Ultimately, it’s very important because, beyond being a good player, I believe the best player always makes his team win. When your team wins, everyone stands out more, everyone shines brighter,” he added.
“Thank God, we’ve been winning with the national team for a year now. We’re winning with Barça too. We’re very happy and we want to keep winning. Personally, I’m very happy.”
