Which period of time is longer, the winters in eastern Washington or the time between college football seaons There is no right or wrong answer, but both feel like a slog. At least there’s good weather while waiting for the football season to begin.
But we’ve made it to Labor Day Weekend, and the 2025 version of our Washington State Cougars are ready to welcome the Idaho Vandals to Gesa Field.
By now you all know how different this version of Cougar football is compared to last year. With more than
70 new faces on the roster, it’ll take some time to get to know everyone.
Consider this: Comparing today’s depth chart (aka the “OR” chart) to the Cougs’ depth chart against Wyoming in last year’s season finale, WSU returns 11 players who appeared on the two-deep last year, with just four of those starters (Tony Freeman, Christian Hilborn, Brock Dieu and Josh Meredith).
On defense, the Cougs return just six players who were on the depth chart last November, with just Raam Stevenson the only one who started that game against Wyoming.
And it won’t just be new faces—the Cougs are expected to deploy a run first offense under first year head coach Jimmy Rogers. We’ve been some version of the Air Raid or the Run and Shoot since 2012.
New faces, new schemes, new season. Welcome back college football. Talk about the game here.
