If you’re not an NFL fan, you’re in luck! You can tune in to watch the Colorado Rockies go for their 41st win, which would officially mean they won’t stand alone as the worst team in the Modern Era of MLB.
The Fighting Rockies shut out the San Diego Padres on Friday night, and nearly completed another magical comeback last night en route to a 10-8 loss. They were down 10-2 early after McCade Brown gave up six runs in the second and newcomer Roansy Contreras was tagged for four runs in the fifth, but
they went on to score four in the seventh thanks to Mickey Moniak and Jordan Beck (and one in the sixth and ninth).
Tanner Gordon (5-5, 6.07 ERA) will look to slay another dragon this afternoon. Gordon has performed admirably this season, beating teams such as the New York Yankees, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros. He was tagged with a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs last weekend, but tossed six innings while allowing just two runs on five hits with a career-high nine strikeouts (also the most by a Rockies starter to that point in 2025) and just one walk. If he’d won the start, Gordon would’ve become the first Rockies starter to win four-straight decisions since Austin Gomber did it in 2023.
He will face the formidable Dylan Cease (6-11, 4.81 ERA). Cease has had a bit of a rough year, but has picked up lately. His 11 losing decisions tie a career-high from last season, and he’s also received just one run of support or fewer in seven of his last 12 starts. Half of his winning decisions (3) have come in his last six outings. In his last outing against the Baltimore Orioles, Cease threw just four innings, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks on 91 pitches. He has faced the Rockies five times in his career, going 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA. He has pitched at Coors Field three times, going 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA.
Can the Rockies beat the Padres to win the series and tie the 2024 White Sox? Tune in to find out!
