The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has issued a statement in response to Barcelona’s confirmation that Lamine Yamal has been ruled out of action for 2-3 weeks.
Yamal had been called up to the Spain squad for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria but will now miss those two games as he bids to shake off his current knock.
A statement has now been issued from the RFEF and it seems Luis de la Fuente and Co aren’t too happy to lose Yamal after the squad had been announced.
“Lamine Yamal
has been dropped from Luis de la Fuente’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia in Elche and Bulgaria in Valladolid,” read a statement.
“Following a request for medical information from the RFEF’s medical services yesterday, FC Barcelona’s medical services reported this afternoon, once the official squad was published, that the Blaugrana forward is experiencing discomfort in his pubic area. Therefore, in order to promote a speedy, safe recovery, as is the case with all players playing for the Spanish national team, he has been withdrawn from the squad.
“The training camp will begin on Monday, October 6, at 8:00 p.m. at the Ciudad del Fútbol stadium in Las Rozas.”
Deco said earlier this week that he had spoke to the Federation in a bid to try and improve communication between club and country but it seems there’s still plenty of tension between the two parties.
