On her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll is joined by Michael-Shawn Dugar, who covers the Seattle Seahawks for The Athletic, and they break down the newest Chicago Bears safety, Coby Bryant. They discuss his college career, the positional change in the pros, and what Bryant does best on the field. They also talk about his personality and confidence, and how those bleed into his play.
“Coby was the Jim Thorpe Award winner in college, for the best defensive back, and he got drafted in the fourth
round. And he carries with him this chip on his shoulder and this confidence; this combination of the two, and it just exudes from him,” Dugar said about Bryant. “When he won the Jim Thorpe award, he was just so grateful. I encourage everyone to go watch his speech. But he also told all the other winners who are either watching or in the building. He was like, ‘I’m going to get into the league, and I’m going to be better than all of you,’ and it wasn’t like this arrogance. It was like this confidence, like, ‘Thank you for blazing the trail. Now it’s my turn to go be great.’ And you now look at a $40 million guy, and that’s Coby, though.”
“That’s a guy who’s named after Kobe Bryant. You kind of have to carry yourself a certain way, or it’s just going to look awkward.”
Give Taylor’s show a listen in either of the embeds below, and give us your thoughts on Bryant’s fit with the Bears.
