One door may have closed on El Hijo del Vikingo in Mexico, but another could open, leading the luchador to Las Vegas and WrestleMania.
Vikingo was still fuming on Saturday, fixated on Mini Vikingo, who had cost him his Mega title shot against champion Dominik Mysterio during Week 1 of Rey de Reyes. By pre-match stipulation, he can no longer challenge Mysterio for the title.
AAA CEO and leader of El Ojo, Dorian Roldán, tried to calm the former Mega Champion down by steering him toward a new goal and a worldwide
stage.
“Imagine this,” Roldán said. “WrestleMania Weekend. Intercontinental Champion. You are El Hijo Del Vikingo, understand that. You were born to do big things.”
This Saturday at Week 3 of Rey de Reyes, Vikingo will call out reigning Intercontinental Champion Penta. If Roldán’s vision becomes reality, Vikingo could face Penta at WrestleMania, extending a rivalry between the former partners that has spanned Mexico and reached AEW and the U.S.
However, the pair may have company. Mysterio is looking to reclaim the I.C. title after dropping it to Penta three weeks ago on Raw. He gets his rematch this Monday, but standing in his way could be Finn Bálor, whom Dom had kicked out of Judgment Day.
At last year’s WrestleMania, Penta, Mysterio, and Bálor met in a Fatal 4-Way for the Intercontinental title against then-champion Bron Breakker. Mysterio escaped with the gold after pinning Bálor.
With Breakker out and Vikingo added to the mix, fans could witness a high-flying sprint from four of wrestling’s top stars on WWE’s biggest stage, while giving Vikingo a platform to shine in front of the WWE Universe.
