LAWRENCE, Kan. — Even though it was an unofficial match, Iowa State tennis took part in their first competition Thursday morning in Lawrence, Kansas, for day one of the Jayhawk Invitational against Kansas State.
The Cyclones, picked ninth in the Big 12 preseason poll, tallied four singles and two doubles victories against the Wildcats – picked 13th in the preseason poll.
Newcomers to the Cyclone squad for spring 2026 include Tasmania, Australia, native Alicia Dale and Valentina Vargas, who hails from
Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Dale – with a career-high ITF junior ranking of 273 – defeated Margaret Jaraczewski with a 6-3 victory in the first set and a 6-2 in the decisive third set.
Vargas fell in straight sets to Martaa Chogsomjav.
The Cyclones take on host Kansas – picked eighth in the preseason Big 12 poll – on Friday at 10 a.m. and Memphis on Saturday.
