Is Stones the answer for Bayern’s third center-back in 2026/27? (CaughtOffside’s Mark Brus)
Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae is rumored to be open to a transfer this summer (depending on what you want to believe, other reports refute that he wants an exit), which could open up a roster slot for the Bavarians.
Assuming Dayot Upamecano eventually signs his new contract (the team thinks it will happen soon), there could be a need for a capable third member in the center-back group to team up with Upamecano and Jonathan Tah.
Could that player be Manchester City’s John Stones — an English
national team colleague of Harry Kane and former teammate of Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany?
Maybe:
It could be the end of an era at Manchester City this summer as I’m now hearing of major doubts about one of their long-serving star players alongside the ongoing speculation surrounding Pep Guardiola.
According to my sources, as first reported here for the Daily Briefing, it looks increasingly like John Stones will not be offered a new contract, with his current deal at the Etihad Stadium due to expire at the end of this season.
There seems to be an acceptance that it’s time for both City and Stones to part ways, and some suitors may already have established early contacts to sound out the player. The 31-year-old is technically already free to talk to clubs from abroad, and numerous sources have named potential destinations for him in Europe.
One name coming up a lot is Bayern Munich, who are keen to explore cheap options to strengthen their depth in defence.
“Bayern have already started moves behind the scenes to persuade Stones,” one source said. “His old teammate Vincent Kompany could be key, as could another England player in Harry Kane, but a final decision won’t happen now.”
If Kim departs (which could be a big if), there would be a void. While an intriguing prospect, Cassiano Kiala is not considered to be ready for that kind of role just yet, so the Bavarians might have to hit the open market. Stones, as an experienced free transfer could be an intriguing add.
Stones currently makes a total financial package (salary + bonus) of €18.6 million per Capology and would likely have to take a pay cut to join Bayern Munich.
What do you think?
FC Nürnberg extends Klose (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)
FC Nürnberg has extended the contract of former Bayern Munich and German national team star Miroslav Klose, who is the squad’s head coach:
FC Nürnberg is in 10th place of the Bundesliga table with seven wins, five draws, and nine losses. Klose coached at Bayern Munich from 2018 to 2021. He served as the head coach for the U-17 youth team from 2018 to 2020, before moving up to become an assistant coach under Hansi Flick for the 2020/21 season. Klose left Bayern Munich in May 2021 during the mass exodus by the coaching staff.
Real wants Vitinha, but would settle for Smit (ESPN)
Real Madrid wants to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha, but would settle for AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit.
Smit has been linked to many clubs, including Bayern Munich:
Real Madrid are making plans for next season and see PSG’s Vitinha as their top target, with AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit as a backup plan, according to AS. Madrid are looking to finetune their squad as they look to mount a double assault on La Liga and the Champions League, and Vitinha is seen as a player with vital leadership qualities. The 27-year-old is contracted until 2029 and appears happy in the French capital, which could make Madrid’s interest complicated. Smit, 19, would be easier to facilitate, but he is not yet the finished article. Madrid are already planning to build on the return of Endrick and Nico Paz from their respective loan spells.
LFC keeping eye on Pulisic (Transfer Expert Nicolò Schira)
Liverpool is reportedly keeping an eye on AC Milan star Christian Pulisic, whose deal expires in 2027:
Liverpool are monitoring Christian #Pulisic. His contract expires in 2027 (4M + 1M as bonuses), even if #ACMilan have unilateral option to extend until 2028. Pulisic is happy at #Milan, but was expecting a contract extension never offered by Milan until now. #transfers #LFC
Lewandowski has a lot of interest, but are any destinations desirable to him? (ESPN)
If former Bayern Munich striker and current FC Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski leaves the club this summer, he will have no shortage of options.
Chicago Fire, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Fenerbahce and the Saudi Pro League are all interested in the Polish Hitman:
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has serious offers from Chicago Fire, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Fenerbahce and the Saudi Pro League ahead of his contract expiring in the summer, reports Mundo Deportivo. The 37-year-old is calm about his future and will not make a decision until April, and he will review the Blaugrana’s offer plus those from elsewhere. Lewandowski will prioritise Barcelona depending on the offer he receives, but he is focused on stability and family happiness over the finances of a deal.
Salah could triple his salary (ESPN)
It must be nice to be Mo Salah. The Liverpool star could be on the verge of tripling his salary:
Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah could triple his salary to £1.2 million-per-week if he moves to Al Nassr as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement in the summer, according to the Mirror. The 33-year-old will be the new face of the Saudi Pro League if it can convince him to leave Liverpool after nine years at the club. The SPL are keen to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who is threatening to walk away from his deal at Al Nassr in the face of what he sees as favoritism in the transfer market toward Al Hilal. The Portugal legend is on the cusp of scoring 1000 goals but could return to Europe to achieve the feat. He has been linked with an emotional return to Sporting Lisbon.
