Each day in the month of June, we’ll roll out a fresh topic to get Chicago Bears fans thinking. Be sure to chime in with your answer in the comments so we can all get to know our WCG members a bit better.
Who is your current favorite Bears player?
What Caleb Williams has done as a Bear and for the Chicago Bears is simply too good for me to go anywhere else. He knew what he was coming into as a QB for Chicago. And embraced it. He knew the talent in this division would be a tremendous challenge. And he embraced it. He knew what the rivalry with
GB would mean as a player and for all of us fans. And he embraced it.
Best of all, he goes to work with unmatched determination and grit, despite what may have been said about him last off-season or leading up to the draft, and is a leader on and off the field. Not just for his teammates either, but for everyone with eyes to see. Caleb is unapologetically himself. Fully. Painted nails and all with one goal alone: to win. His wired headphones, matcha tea, baggy pants and punch line of “Da Bears” each time he leaves a press conference is infectious. Just like his Bear claw.
Ultimately, Caleb is my favorite player because he is must-watch TV every time he is on the field. Even though he is far from a finished product, he already has the tools and talent to carry the team on his back and the clutch factor where the game is never out of reach. The fact that he should continue to improve is extremely exciting as a fan.
Though he has yet to win a Super Bowl like Jim McMahon, I believe those will come. And yes, I speak of multiple. But outside of those pinnacle moments, Caleb has already done more for this team than any QB in my lifetime and that goes for both tangible and intangible achievements. From breaking franchise records as a rookie, all-time NFL records for rookie QBs and leading the league in comebacks just this past year, he’s already cemented his name in the record books. From helping attract the most sought after coach in multiple hiring cycles, being a cultural catalyst on the cover of multiple magazines and the recently announced cover athlete for the world renown Madden franchise video game, Caleb is doing more than his part in bringing The Beloved back to relevancy both on and off the field. Though the stadium debacle hangs over the franchise like a looming storm, Caleb’s done nothing but taken the entire league along for a ride and the NFL world is better for it.
How about you? Who is your current favorite player and why?
