When a club as big as Bayern Munich does anything, it’s bound to gather attention from the media. Now imagine when the German side do something significantly positive or, even worse, negative. Disaster.
Any and every shortcoming Bayern endure is put under the microscope for the unforgiving media to scrutinize.
Take Bayern’s failed attempt to sign Florian Wirtz. The failed transfer signaled a media rampage, ultimately writing Bayern off as a desirable destination for top players without a single minute of the 2025/26 season being played. One signing of Luis Díaz and a few months later, Bayern are the talk of the town across Europe, perhaps even the favorite to win the Champions League. From one end of the pendulum to the other. That’s how quickly things change at Bayern.
One thing that remains consistent no matter what, is the media. However positive or negative, the white noise doesn’t seem to bother Bayern sporting director, Christoph Freund.
“There’s always a lot going on around FC Bayern,” explained Freund in an interview with Servus Nachrichten (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “So much is being written and so many rumors. The club is just so big and interesting. If a transfer somehow doesn’t work out, then it’s obviously a huge topic. But we’ve always said that we don’t have to do much with our squad. When our injured players come back, we’ll have a really good team. The club hasn’t lost any of its appeal. When something is reported, whether positive or negative, it’s always about FC Bayern Munich. That’s a brand, and it’s a huge one.”
After decades of being at the very pinnacle of Europe’s elite, Die Rekordmeister are primed to deal with the media. While headlines and criticism may trigger fans, it’s just another day in the office for Bayern.
