It was a blistering hot day as the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Miami Dolphins in a game that kicked off at 9o degrees, making it the hottest road game in Bengals’ history, according to Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson.
The broadcast mentioned it being about 10 degrees hotter on the Bengals’ sideline vs. that of Miami, and they also mentioned players getting IVs to stay hydrated. It was so hot that the broadcasters even mentioned players changing undershirts midgame.
The heat affected everyone, and after
the game, head coach Zac Taylor said his team was “dead tired” by the end.
“Nothing really at this point in October gets you ready for this heat,” Taylor said. “I mean, somebody told me it started as the hottest game here in October history, which I can attest to. I’ve coached here for four years, and pregame, I was worn out. And so our players fought through that.”
Taylor said that he specifically told his team that it was the hottest October game in Hard Rock Stadium’s history, so they knew it wasn’t an issue with their bodies or conditioning.
The bye week is early in the season, and with some of the injuries, tight games, and now the extreme heat the Bengals have played in, this may be the perfect time for a week off. An AFC North clash with the Baltimore Ravens is waiting for them in 14 days.
