Alejandro Balde’s future at Barcelona has been the subject of plenty of speculation over recent months after a summer where he was linked with an exit.
The left-back decided to stay at Camp Nou but is yet to play a single minute this season under Hansi Flick.
With Xavi Espart impressing at left-back, Balde faces a battle to regain his place. Deco has been asked about the situation and has said the youngster needs to fight for his spot in the team.
“Nothing has happened, he’s our player. He’s 22 years
old, has a bright future, and a contract with the best club in the world,” he told RAC1.
“He has to fight for his place. He’s had injuries, but two years ago he was spectacular. If this Balde is fit, it’s unlikely he won’t play for Barça.
“There was a lot of talk, but he’s never expressed a desire to leave. Whether he plays or not isn’t a decision for the sporting director.”
Flick dropped Balde from his squad for the game against Elche but made it clear he had not asked the youngster to leave. Balde has since returned to the squad but is yet to make it off the bench for Barca.
