this point in two weeks, the Grapefruit League of 2026 will be but a memory. We usually wish these games are over as soon as possible, looking forward to the regular season commencing as quickly as possible, but the lingering question is hovering over baseball. Will these be the last spring training games we see for a while?
On to the links.
Phillies news:
- The Phillies now have four of their starters signed to expensive(ish) contracts for 2027 ($). Other teams are seeing this.
- “Running it back” is a term we have seen used often with the Phillies this offseason ($). There are numbers that show how rare it is in baseball history.
MLB news:
- The Cal Raleigh- Randy Arozarena “dustup” over a nonhandshake at the WBC is morphing into a stupid story.
- Hunter Greene is going to be out until at least July after recovering from elbow surgery. That’s a big blow to the Reds’ rotation, but not a death knell.
- When owners give a Q&A session about their franchise, one should perk up and listen. With the Tigers and the impending free agency, it’s worth the read ($).
- Joe Musgrove is being brought along slowly in his own rehab. That might open up a spot for Walker Buehler in the Padres’ rotation.
