After not practicing on Friday due to a calf injury, San Francisco 49ers starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir will play this afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals. Here are today’s inactives:
RB Jordan James
WR Jordan Watkins
OL Connor Colby
DL Clelin Ferrell
DL Kevin Givens
CB Eli Apple
Clelin Ferrell and Kevin Givens were not listed on the injury report this week, making them healthy scratches. Givens (28) and Ferrell (24) played meaningful snaps in a divisional game last week against the Los
Angeles Rams.
CJ West played a season-high 29 snaps last week. Second-round pick Alfred Collins did not play. Collins is the player the 49ers need to ascend and play up to his potential. He’s been close on numerous occasions during the previous month. But the defense is at a point where they need their rookie to start turning the “almost” plays into production. Collins figures to play a prominent role today.
Jordan Watkins being inactive isn’t surprising since he doesn’t contribute on special teams. Skyy Moore has turned a corner as the punt returner. The snap counts suggest there’s more trust in Demarcus Robinson than Watkins. Robinson was on the field for 29 snaps compared to Watkins’ three.
Robinson is another player the Niners need to live up to what we saw/read/heard in August. Now that Brock Purdy is back in the fold, his play style meshes better with a vertical threat like Robinson. Today could be an opportunity to see what Kyle Shanahan envisioned for this offense.
