Bayern Munich supervisory board member and honorary president Uli Hoeneß is not a man to shy away from the spotlight, or the mic. The 73-year-old found himself right in the fray in recent weeks with comments about transfer friction in the Bayern board room — which drew a ‘no comment’ from sporting chief Max Eberl.
Eberl had appeared to catch a stray or two in the original comments, but Hoeneß insisted that he had been nothing but helpful to the Bayern executive board member for sport, even musing
that maybe Eberl could have said so himself.
Meanwhile Hoeneß has also made some waves for insisting that Bayern ended up as the “real winners” of the recently-concluded summer transfer window, despite missing some top targets.
But if there is trouble in paradise, the folks at Säbener Straße are keeping it on lock. President Herbert Hainer and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen offered some tension-defusing words captured Der Sport-Informations-Dienst (SID Sportnews), via @iMiaSanMia
“You always have to keep things in perspective. Every word is carefully considered. Uli says what he thinks. It’s always in the best interests of FC Bayern. He wants the best for FC Bayern. We’re working very well together. We make all decisions together. And regarding the summer transfer window: There’s no Max Eberl transfer or Christoph Freund transfer or anyone else. This is FC Bayern. We at the supervisory board have approved every transfer. We do everything together,” Hainer said.
Added Dreesen: “It’s perfectly legitimate to have controversial discussions. Uli Hoeneß said nothing else. And I think that’s the most normal thing in the world. If everyone just sings the same song, it gets boring. It’s important that we have this discussion internally and reach a common conclusion. And ultimately, the result is what matters.”
Forward into the season then, with the Three Musketeers!
(And Eberl.)
