History was made Thursday night during the first round of the NFL Draft. Some might say it was “extremely historic,” but I don’t need a grammar lesson from POTUS
— so let’s just say it was insanely historic and leave it at that. For the first time ever, the first two running backs selected in the NFL Draft were from the same team. If you’ve been under a rock for a day or two, those two running backs were Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love (#3 Arizona Cardinals) and Jadarian Price (#32 Seattle Seahawks).
Is that good?
The possibility of Love and Price being the first two backs selected had been very high for months. This wasn’t some kind of big surprise… which feels a little weird.
Jeremiyah Love was the first Notre Dame running back picking in the first round of the NFL Draft since Jerome Bettis was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams with the 10th overall pick in 1993. So for this to happen with Bettis in attendance as a representative of the host, Pittsburgh Steelers, adds to the mix, and makes it seem more like destiny than a series of weirdness. The fact that Price wasn’t just the second running back selected, but also in the first round, puts this whole thing on a pedestal.
This bit of history will never be matched — how could it? Price and Love were the ultimate unicorn, and in this day and age of recruiting, NIL, positional value, and everything else; it’s hard to imagine anything like this to ever happen again. After 33 years of not having an Irish running back selected in the first round, the Irish produce the only two running backs selected in the first round.
So let me set the record straight… this extremely historic night was very unique and brought to you LIVE.
