The yearly goals and games roundup comes to a close with Bayern Munich’s best of the bunch. Here are the top five Bayern games in the year of 2025. Enjoy!
5. Bayern Munich 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach
Bundesliga
Matchday 33, 2024/25
May 10, Allianz Arena, Munich
Bayern Munich’s final home game of the 2024/25 season had little in terms of sporting importance as they had already wrapped up the Bundesliga title the previous week. However, it was extremely special in that it was Bayern legend Thomas Müller’s last home game for the club. Naturally, everyone was hoping to celebrate with a win, and win they did. Harry Kane opened the scoring after deftly guiding Michael Olise’s cross/shot, and Olise got a goal of his own after receiving the ball from Leroy Sané in the final minutes.
The celebration that followed involved Kane and Eric Dier’s first ever major trophy lifts, a standing ovation and heartfelt speech from Müller, and of course, a lot of beer. Poor Kane got the worst of the beer showers, so much so that apparently his wife had to stay away because he reeked of Paulaner. Not that he would have cared one bit. Oh, and it marked the official debut of the Bayern Meister-Cockatoo.
4. VfB Stuttgart 1-2 Bayern Munich
2025 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup
August 16, MHP Arena, Stuttgart
The curtain raiser of the 2025/26 season was the DFL-Supercup, newly renamed in honor of the legendary Franz Beckenbauer. Naturally, it would only be fit that Bayern would be the first ones to lift the trophy under its new name. And lift it they did.
Harry Kane opened the scoring with his first ever goal in a major final, and although Manuel Neuer was called into action a couple of times, it was Bayern who scored the next goal as well, with newcomer Luis Díaz getting his first goal for the club. Stuttgart did pull a goal back through Jamie Leweling in the dying seconds, but it was too little, too late. Bayern thus started the season with another trophy. Little did they know that this would be the start of a whopping 16-game winning streak that stretched until November.
3. Bayern Munich 3-2 Arsenal
UEFA Champions League Matchday 3, 2025/26
November 12, Allianz Arena, Munich
Bayern Munich Frauen were not dealt an easy draw in the first ever Women’s Champions League league phase. One of their opponents were none other than defending champions Arsenal, whom they faced in the Allianz Arena, as they had done the previous season. Arsenal showed why they were a force to be reckoned with by scoring twice early on and going into halftime with a double advantage.
However, Bayern were not going to go belly-up in their own living room (albeit a slightly bigger one than their usual one at the Bayern Campus). With just over 20 minutes to go, Alara halved the deficit after receiving a cross from Klara Bühl. Then, in the 80th minute, Pernille Harder tried her luck from range and struck gold to tie the scores. This was a shock in as of itself, but Bayern were not done. Bühl sent in another cross (her third assist of the night) from the left to find captain Glódis Perla Viggósdóttir, who completed a stunning comeback and crowned Bayern the winners.
The result was immense, mostly because it showed that Bayern had what it takes to take on the best in Europe, and also because the win paved the way for them to finish in the top four of the league phase and get a direct bye to the quarterfinals.
2. Bayern Munich 3-0 Bayer 04 Leverkusen
UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg, 2024/25
March 5, Allianz Arena, Munich
Bayer Leverkusen had been a thorn in Bayern’s side for the past two years. Bayern alum Xabi Alonso of all people had turned the Werkself into a winning machine, and Bayern had failed to beat them since 2022. There were thus many doubters ahead of the Champions League clash between the two, especially since Leverkusen had pummeled Bayern in their most recent Bundesliga fixture, which somehow ended goalless.
However, those doubts were soon quelled when Harry Kane scored a surprisingly early opener with a towering header in the 9th minute. Around the same time after the restart, Jamal Musiala took advantage of a goalkeeping mistake and scored the second goal. Leverkusen’s night went from bad to worse when Nordi Mukiele got sent off, and Kane then converted a penalty with a quarter of an hour to go to wrap up quite the statement victory. It was the first time that Bayern had beaten Leverkusen in two and a half years, and it proved that they were still the team to beat in Germany.
Bayern then finished their job with relative ease with a 2-0 win in the second leg a week later, albeit without Manuel Neuer, who picked up a bizarre injury while celebrating Musiala’s goal.
1. Paris Saint-Germain 1-2 Bayern Munich
UEFA Champions League Matchday 4, 2025/26
November 4, Parc des Princes, Paris
It was not just Bayern’s women’s team who had been dealt a tough draw. An away trip to reigning treble winners Paris Saint-Germain was not going to be a walk in the park (or Parc). Or so everyone thought…until Luis Díaz opened the scoring after just three minutes. Díaz would put PSG in even deeper trouble when he picked Marquinhos’ pocket and scored a second. Bayern were leading the treble winners by two in their own backyard. Easy money all night long.
But then the game took an immense twist when goalscorer Díaz got sent off for a tackle on Achraf Hakimi. What was supposed to be smooth sailing suddenly turned into a Parisian torrent, with waves of attack coming again and again. Buoyed by their home crowd, PSG started pounding on Bayern’s door all throughout the second half, and eventually squeezed in a goal through João Neves. However, they could not blow the house down completely, Bayern held on for dear life with dogged defending and a few great saves from Manuel Neuer, and eventually saw the win through with sheer willpower. The feeling after the final whistle was so electric that Vincent Kompany sprinted all the way from the dugout onto the pitch to join the players’ huddle.
Just put it this way – a win against the reigning treble winners while a man down for more than an entire half in their home stadium, that was a statement win of great proportions. It signaled that Bayern really were in red hot form, and that Kompany and his team were doing something special indeed. Where that will lead to is anyone’s guess, but from a Bayern’s fan’s perspective. they will be hoping for it to end in glory in about five months’ time.
