Lamine Yamal’s father has been very critical of the decision to award Ousmane Dembele the 2025 Ballon d’Or ahead of his son.
The two players were the hot favorites to land the prestigious Golden Ball, but it was Dembele who came out on top in a ceremony on Monday night in Paris.
Mounir Nasroui was at the Ballon d’Or awards and shared his thoughts on the decision afterwards.
“I think this is the greatest harm, I wouldn’t say theft, but moral harm caused to a human being, because I believe that Lamine
Yamal is by far the best player in the world, and by far the one who makes a lot of difference,” he told El Chiringuito.
“Not because he’s my son, but because he’s the best player in the world. I think there is no rival, Lamine Yamal is Lamine Yamal. It must be said that something very strange has happened here. Greetings to all of Spain, and next year it will be a Spanish ball.”
Yamal did walk off with the Kopa Trophy and is expected to lift the Ballon d’Or at some point in his career. Indeed Joan Laporta said afterwards he felt missing out this time would be added “motivation” for the talented teenager.
