Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford won’t be the only fighters earning some big-time cash this Saturday night.
According to UFC CEO Dana White, who is co-promoting Saturday’s massive boxing superfight on Netflix, the fighters competing on the Canelo vs. Crawford undercard will have a chance to win an extra $200,000 in post-fight bonuses. There will be one $100,000 award for Performance of the Night and another $100,000 award for Fight of the Night, only eligible to those fighters on the undercard.
White revealed the bonus structure in an interview with Stephen A. Smith on Friday. Check it out below:
“Canelo and Crawford are gonna do just fine on Saturday,” said White. “They’re gonna be okay. But on the undercard fights, we’re gonna have a ‘Performance of the Night’ and a ‘Fight of the Night’ [bonus]. $100,000 each for the fighters on the undercard from Sheik Turki. So you can be involved in the ‘Performance of the Night’ and the ‘Fight of the Night’ and take home 200 grand for these undercard fights.“
This means that White’s boxer, undefeated Irish sensation Callum Walsh, will have a chance to walk away a rich man for his co-main event duties. More Dana White privilege?
Some might see this as a bad look for the UFC CEO since White only offers his own UFC fighters a post-fight bonus structure of $50,000 (outside of rare occurrences like UFC 300’s massive payouts). It would certainly be an issue if White was the one facilitating Saturday’s post-fight performance awards, but it will be Turki Al-Sheikh who is footing the bill.
