Notes & Thoughts:
- Drew Allar playing 94% of the snaps in this game is mildly concerning. I was hoping to see the offense pull away early to rest the starters, but a sloppy day from Allar prevented the offense from finding any rhythm until the second half.
- Nicholas Singleton had five more snaps than Kaytron Allen in this game and has three more for the season overall. Allen has had 8 yards per carry to Singleton’s 4.4. Some of the disparity is due to Allen playing more snaps toward the end of the game with the opposing defense tired. After watching the game film for the first three weeks, Allen looks like a more complete running back so far this season- will he get more carries against Oregon?
- The safety room is interesting. Dejuan Lane has the most snaps through three games, and King Mack started the Villanova game alongside Zakee Wheatley. Anthony Poindexter appears to be very confident in the safety depth entering Big Ten play.
- Alex Tatsch, Cortez Harris, and Sam Siafa made their first appearances of the season on defense.
- I feel good about the depth on the defensive line after having concerns in the offseason. They will certainly be challenged against a good Oregon offensive line, but the pieces are there.
- The offensive line’s run blocking has improved week over week as the rotation has narrowed. The starting five of Shelton-Ioane-Dawkins-Donkoh-Rucci continues to find its footing.
