The term “trap game” is used frequently this time of year, especially for the Michigan Wolverines. 8-2 Michigan will head on the road to take on the 3-7 Maryland Terrapins before facing the No. 1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (10-0) in the last game of the regular season. Because Ohio State’s on deck, whoever Michigan plays preceding the Buckeyes is often perceived as an opponent they can overlook.
In this edition of SB Nation Reacts, we’re asking if you always view Michigan’s game against Ohio State as a trap game, regardless of who the opponent is. Vote below.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore doesn’t buy the trap game logic and isn’t feeding narrative.
“It’s not a trap game. This is a good team. This is not a trap game,” Moore said. “There is nothing about this game that is a trap game. There’s zero trap game on this. This is a really good team that, if you don’t play well, you will get beat.”
Michigan is 8-1 in the week preceding the Ohio State tilt since 2015. Maryland has been the opponent twice — a 59-18 win in 2021 and a 31-24 win in 2023. The trap game talk is likely way overblown, especially for a Michigan team that has no margin for error if they want to make the College Football Playoff — they absolutely have to win out and finish the regular season at 10-2.
