Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has called on Lionel Messi to share his side of the story about a possible return to the club.
Former manager Xavi has claimed that Messi was set to return to Camp Nou in 2023 before Joan Laporta blocked the deal.
Font was asked about the situation again on Tuesday at an event and said: “I don’t think Messi will say anything between now and Sunday, but I hope he does.
“I hope he tells the truth so that the socis don’t go to the polls misled by Laporta and
blinded by the smoke screen of hope generated by Hansi Flick and the young players.”
Laporta has already hit back at Xavi with some pretty harsh words, and now says he’s confident Messi’s version of events would match his own.
“I don’t quite understand what Xavi said. Messi’s situation was completely transparent. Jorge Messi came to my house and told me that they would ultimately be better off in Miami than in Saudi Arabia or Barcelona,” he said.
“That was all. It adds nothing. All it does is muddy the waters of the elections. Xavi is being used by Font, and that’s the sad part. He contributes nothing to the electoral debate. I like him, but this way of acting disappoints me.”
