Puerto Rican outfit Fresh Productions pulled off an upset at today’s IBF purse bid, snatching the rights to Subriel Matias vs Dalton Smith from Matchroom by outbidding them $1.9 million to $1.71 million.
England’s Smith (18-0, 13 KO) confronted Matias (23-2, 22 KO) in the ring after the latter’s narrow victory over WBC super lightweight champion Alberto Puello in July, with Turki Alalshikh declaring that they’d square off on Riyadh Season’s November 22nd Benavidez vs Yarde show. That clearly didn’t
pan out, giving Matias home-field advantage for the first defense of his second title reign.
That said, Liam Paro got reasonable scorecards when he toppled Matias in Manati two Junes ago, so Smith doesn’t necessarily have to stop the iron-tough Boricua if he wants a fair shake.
We’ll let you know if and when they make this fight official, plus the broadcast details.
