Just a few years ago, Bayern Munich was competing with Manchester City for then-RB Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol.
Ultimately, Pep Guardiola and City were able to convince the player that the Premier League was the best way forward for him and Bayern Munich had to go back to the drawing board.
Now, the same thing might be happening — only this time, City is the incumbent is working to retain Gvardiol. Per Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City feels good about getting a contract extension with the 24-year-old:

Bayern Munich was linked to Gvardiol in recent weeks, but it was always considered to be a longshot. Last week, it was rumored that Bayern Munich exited the running as both City and Real Madrid were considered to have stronger positions.
Now, Gvardiol looks ready to extend his stay in England.
