According to a report from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Sporting CP has reached an agreement with Watford for Nestory Irankunda in a deal worth around €19.7 million.
Sporting had previously submitted an improved offer of approximately €15.1 million, but Watford negotiated the fee up to nearly €19.7 million. The move marks another step in Irankunda’s rapid career. After emerging as one of Australia’s brightest young talents with Adelaide United, Bayern Munich signed him in 2024. Although he showed
flashes of his explosive pace, powerful shot, and one-on-one ability during preseason and with Bayern’s reserves, he never made a competitive first-team appearance before joining Watford in search of regular senior football.
Now, just a year later, the 20-year-old is set for another move, this time to Portuguese champions Sporting CP, where he will have the opportunity to continue his development at a club with a strong reputation for producing elite talent.
For Bayern Munich, the transfer is also a financial success. The club included a 40% sell-on clause when Irankunda joined Watford, meaning Bayern are expected to receive around €8.1 million from the deal despite his departure.
In 2024, Bayern Munich bought Irankunda for €3.4 million from Adelaide United. The Bavarians sold Irankunda to Watford for €3 million last year.
This is another example of Bayern Munich securing long-term value from a young player, while Irankunda’s career continues its upward trajectory with another opportunity to fulfill the immense potential that first brought him to Munich.
