The Pittsburgh Steelers used a first-round pick on an offensive tackle for the third time in four years Thursday night when they selected Max Iheanachor out of Arizona State. In the press conference after the pick, head coach Mike McCarthy made it known that they have no plans on moving Iheanachor to guard.
“No, we’ll star him off at tackle,” McCarthy said when asked about a potential move, via Nick Farabaugh.
However, McCarthy didn’t shut down the idea of shifting Troy Fautanu inside to guard when
asked.
“Lots of options there,” McCarthy said. “We’ve got options.”
Fautanu is coming off a very good season at right tackle. Deciding to move him from that spot would give Steelers fans unfortunate flashbacks to Broderick Jones being moved around and never being able to stay in a set spot, and we saw how that stunted his growth.
Iheanachor played right and left tackle in college, but spent all of 2025 on the right side.
