Bayer Leverkusen head coach Kasper Hjulmand is having a week.
His reward for earning a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League (where his team got jobbed on a late PK), the prize was to face Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga this weekend.
Talk about a Murderer’s Row of a schedule.
“We’ve played against one of the best teams in Europe [Arsenal]. And I can say the same about our next opponent — Bayern have a top team. They’re probably even a bit more complete in their style of play than Arsenal. Therefore,
we have to deliver another top performance tomorrow,” Hjulmand said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
When asked if he saw any weakness in Bayern Munich during its Champions League win over Atalanta, the Bayer Leverkusen boss thought the question was funny.
“Not in that game,” Hjulmand said with a laugh. “They didn’t show any weaknesses, they were strong in pressing and in one-on-one situations. But of course, we generally see possibilities. Anything is possible in football over one game. We have to believe.”
Hjulmand will have some tough decisions to make with his lineup. Die Werkself will be missing the following players, which will not help the situation:
- Alejandro Grimaldo
- Loïc Badé
- Lucas Vázquez
- Arthur
- Eliesse Ben Seghir
- Mark Flekken
On that note, Hjulmand might just be correct…Bayer Leverkusen might just need the power of positive thinking to pick up a win against the Bavarians.
