Exciting news today! Tottenham Hotspur Women have announced that utility midfielder Amanda Nilden and striker Cathinka Tandberg have both signed new contract extensions and have committed their futures to the club!
The 28-year-old Nilden was signed in the summer of 2024 under then-manager Robert Vilahamn. A Sweden international, she’s made 71 appearances in all
competitions for Tottenham, scoring three goals. Her first two years at Spurs she was deployed mostly as a left sided fullback, but this season Martin Ho has utilized her in a central midfield role. Her positional versatility and tenacity has made her a regular for Spurs Women, and Ho praised her performances, indicating that she has the potential to have a leadership role within the squad.
“Amanda gives us flexibility through her ability to play at both full-back and centre-back. Those roles ask different questions of a player: when to advance and support the attack, when to hold position and protect the team, and how to recognise danger from different areas of the pitch. Her ability to take on those responsibilities gives us options in how we build with the ball and organise without it.
“This new contract gives us the opportunity to keep developing her game and increase her influence within the team. An important next step is growing as a leader, communicating with greater conviction, demanding more from those around her and recognising the impact she can have on our collective standards. We believe in her capacity to take that responsibility, and we are delighted she will continue that development with us.”
“Tinka” Tandberg was one of Martin Ho’s first signings after his appointment as manager in the summer of 2025, joining Spurs from Hammarby where she scored 12 goals in 23 appearances in her single season there. This season she stepped into the gigantic shoes of Spurs’ all-time leading WSL goal scorer Bethany England, and has two goals so far in the current league campaign. Tandberg was a Spurs fan even before she joined the club as a player and said she’s delighted to extend her stay beyond her initial contract.
“I love the Club so I always play for the badge. To build a winning team takes time, but we’re on our way and I think everyone wants to be a part of it. That’s the most exciting thing.”
Ho clearly saw Tandberg as the striker to take Spurs to the next level and this new contract is a huge statement about how much the coaching staff believes in her and her ability. In the press release announcing the new contract, Ho said the following about Tinka:
“Cathinka brings qualities that are fundamental to what we demand from a forward. Her finishing ability, intelligent movement and link-up play allow her to both create chances and finish them. What adds real value is her commitment without the ball. She presses with intent, works hard for those around her and understands that leading our attack also means setting the tone for how we defend.
“This new contract reflects our belief in both the player she is and the player she can become. The next step is to develop greater consistency in the details that decide games, while protecting the instinct and conviction that make her dangerous. We want Cathinka to grow into someone who can influence our biggest moments, and we are committed to giving her the challenge, trust and support to do that.”
No details were released about the length of the contract or wages, which is not unusual in women’s football. What is apparent is that both Nilden and Tandberg are highly valued members of the squad, and two players around which Martin Ho intends to build. Congratulations to both Amanda and Tinka!
