After Bayern Munich’s stellar youngster, Lennart Karl, started a major controversy with a statement expressing his desire to play for Real Madrid, more sense is beginning to prevail as the heat settles
down. Sporting exec Max Eberl deems the issue settled after the 17 year-old expressed regret post the incident.
Speaking to the press post the friendly fixture against RB Salzburg (Bild via @iMiaSanMia), Eberl gave an insight into what transpired behind the scenes after the controversial incident.
“He came to us and said it [joining Real Madrid] wasn’t a topic at all, he was so grateful to Bayern Munich. He simply spoke freely, like a 17-year-old. We have no problem with him standing up and saying, ‘There’s Bayern Munich, but there are other clubs too.’ That’s just how it is these days. A 17-year-old is allowed to make a mistake. He’s allowed to say something in his euphoria that he later regrets. He’s learning, and he’s incredibly good on the pitch. He’s no longer the Lenny nobody knows, but Lennart Karl, whom all of Germany now knows what he’s capable of and what he is. He’ll learn from that,” said Eberl.
A statement on the pitch
Karl received a LOT of flak after expressing his desire to play for Real Madrid, calling it his dream club, to an audience of Bayern fans. Well, that was natural reaction from the fans. However, the kid once again showed he can grow into a bastion of composure. It is not easy business for the professionals to handle the negativity from their own fans that they play in front of every matchday. However, Karl did not let the flak get to him. He remained the teen sensation he’s been all along the season. Putting away another goal for Bayern, Karl made his intent clear with his celebration that he remains fully with Bayern for now.
And, like Eberl pointed out, he is only a 17 year-old and deserves some slack, especially off the pitch. Regardless, some seniors having a chat with him, which should already be the case by the now would definitely ensure he would make a good call when the time comes.
