The Buffalo Bills’ Week 4 loss to the New England Patriots feels like ages ago, and it’s left a very sour taste in the collective mouths of Bills Mafia. The extra time off ahead of Week 5 has allowed doubt to creep in from all corners of the football world.
To put the wrongs of last week behind them, Buffalo must rebound by taking down a potent Los Angeles Rams team in primetime under the lights of Monday Night Football. No pressure, right? It comes with the territory when a team wins as consistently
as the Bills have since quarterback Josh Allen rose to stardom.
So how are Bills fans feeling in the aftermath of the team’s first loss of the season — also its first loss in the new Highmark Stadium? Confidence is at a season low, and among the lowest figures we’ve seen since starting this endeavor some seasons back.
Fans down on Bills heading into Week 5
Just 27% of Rumblings voters are confident the team is headed in the right direction. Yikes! Quarterback Josh Allen picked a really bad game to struggle, and the defense had zero answers for quarterback Drake Maye and company.
More to the point, it’s uncertain when or how Buffalo’s defense will improve under the direction of defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard. We’ve heard that this season will be a bit of a bridge as the team continues its transition from a base 4-3 to a base 3-4 scheme.
Right now fans and analysts are curious whether the biggest problem is a matter of system or personnel. If the current players given long-term contracts don’t mesh well with the new defense, that could have adverse affects on the team’s salary cap in the near and distant future.
You’ll often hear some variety of: “With Josh Allen, no Super Bowl window is ever closed.” That’s true and remains the team’s goal. However, it might have been a bit generous expecting the same level of success sustained during prior head coach Sean McDermott’s tenure. Buffalo should fight its way to a playoff berth, but it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
This is a new era at One Bills Drive, and Joe Brady is not Sean McDermott. It’s going to take time for things to properly gel, and the front office believes Brady is the right person to get the team over the hump in the playoffs.
Last Sunday’s loss to the Patriots smelled a lot like the one McDermott’s team lost at home last season. Like that situation, the Bills may find themselves chasing the Patriots for a while into the back half of the regular season. Winning division games is key to chasing a first-round bye. So far in 2026, the Bills are 0-1 in that column, with five more to go against the AFC East.
Bills Mafia not confident Buffalo wins vs. Rams Week 5
Rumblings voters are also a bit skeptical about the Bills winning their Week 5 matchup with the Rams. The results of our poll showed just 40% of respondents saying that Buffalo will win and improve to 4-1 following their Monday Night Football game.
Okay, the Rams are a good team and remain one of the popular picks to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LXI. The game will be played in their home stadium, after all. They have the current NFL MVP in quarterback Matthew Stafford, a talented group of wide receivers in Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, a stellar rushing attack led by Kyren Williams, and a pair of future Pro Football Hall of Fame defenders in Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald.
But the Rams are beatable. Their defense hasn’t scared often in the first month. Garrett is currently sidelined after having knee surgery following his Week 1 Rams debut in Australia. Donald looks old, and their special teams are a work in progress.
Buffalo could go into SoFi Stadium and steal a win in primetime. Like the last matchup between these teams, it could turn into an offensive shootout. Both teams run heavy 13 personnel, so it could also turn into a ground & pound event. Who knows?
Will the 40% of confident Bills fans prove correct when the dust settles on Week 5? Never count out Josh Allen!
