Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo spoke to the press on Tuesday ahead of the league phase finale against Copenhagen on Wednesday as the Blaugrana look for a big win to secure a Top 8 finish and an automatic
spot in the knockout rounds.
Olmo spoke about the game but was also asked about other topics such as the departure of former teammate Dro Fernández to PSG, the news of Fermín López agreeing a new contract with the club, and how the team can deal with the absences of their two world-class midfielders, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, ahead of the biggest game of the season so far.
Here’s a summary of Olmo’s best quotes:
Dro’s departure
“Everyone has their reasons. I had mine, and Dro has his now. It’s a shame because he was a player the club was keen on, but it’s his decision.”
Fermín’s new contract
“I’m glad he’s renewing, it’s good news for everyone. We understand each other on the pitch and we’re good friends off it. We’re 100% compatible on the pitch.”
Dealing with Frenkie de Jong and Pedri absences
“The goal [tomorrow] is to win, then score as many goals as possible. We don’t care about the rest of the matches. Frenkie and Pedri are sensitive losses, but I can play further back, I’ve done it other times. Casadó, Bernal or Eric can play as a 6.
“The position I feel most comfortable in is number 10. It’s my position, where I move best. But I have no problem taking on another role at the base of midfield, with more freedom. I’ve done it a few times this year and in others. I wouldn’t have any problem with it.”
