The Phoenix Suns are exercising Jamaree Bouyea’s $2.6 million team option for the 2026-2027 NBA season, NBA insider Mike Scotto reports.
Phoenix had until later today to pick up the option and did so just hours before the deadline.
Phoenix initially signed Bouyea to a two-way deal about a month into the 2025-2026 season and converted his contract into a standard one in March after he impressed the team while Jalen Green and other guards dealt with injuries.
Coming off a career year, Bouyea averaged 5.7 points on 45.8% shooting from the field in 46 games, with his best performance coming in the final game of the regular season, where he scored 27 points to go along with nine assists against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played in all four of the team’s playoff games against the Oklahoma City Thunder but played more than 52 seconds in only one of the contests.
Bouncing around the league for the first few seasons of his career, he played the most games of his career last season and is set to play on the same team for consecutive seasons for the first time in his career.
With Bouyea’s future with the team now certain for next season, all eyes turn to forward Haywood Highsmith’s future with the team, whom Phoenix signed during the season to a two-year deal that becomes fully guaranteed on January 10, according to Spotrac. Phoenix signed Highsmith as insurance in case they lost Royce O’Neale or other forwards in the offseason, and with O’Neale and Grayson Allen now shipped off to Charlotte after the team acquired Miles Bridges, that theory is being put to the test. But for now, Bouyea is staying put.
NBA free agency starts in less than 24 hours at 3:00 p.m. Phoenix time.
