In what appears to be an odd move for the franchise, the Golden State Valkyries have waived former TCU forward Marta Suarez, who the team acquired in a trade with the Seattle Storm on the evening of the 2026 WNBA Draft. Selected 16th overall in the second round by the Storm, Suarez was traded to the Valkyries in a deal involving No. 8 overall pick Flau’jae Johnson. The 6-foot-3 forward appeared in one preseason game for Golden State, scoring five points on 2-of-5 shooting with three rebounds, one assist
and one steal in 14 minutes played.
The Valkyries could bring Suarez back on a developmental contract. The Spanish forward played her final collegiate season for the Horned Frogs, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors after averaging 17.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in 2025-26. Suarez shot 45.3 percent from the floor and 37.0 percent from 3-point range. Behind Suarez and All-American guard Olivia Miles, TCU went 32-6, won the Big 12 title and made the Elite Eight for the second consecutive season.
