According to a report from Bild’s Nico Linner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Benfica really might be getting closer to securing a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha:
After they were rebuffed in June because they refused to meet Bayern’s demands, Benfica are now making a renewed attempt to sign João Palhinha – and their chances are looking better. The Portuguese side is now Palhinha’s preferred destination should he leave Munich, so agreeing personal terms is not an issue.
Benfica had offered
a loan with an option to buy in initial talks in June, but the overall package wasn’t high enough for Bayern. Now the reported €15m + €5m bid in Portuguese media is closer to what Bayern are expecting. Benfica’s German chief scout, Patrick Dippel, is a former Bayern analyst could help in the process as he’s been considered a key figure behind many Benfica transfers.
In addition to that report, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano posted his own update as well:
🚨🦅 Benfica are pushing to try get João Palhinha deal done after Aston Villa bid rejected by FC Bayern.
Negotiations club to club now underway as Benfica want to find a way if Palhinha does not end up in Premier League.
An exit makes sense for Palhinha, who has no role in Bavaria under head coach Vincent Kompany. If Benfica can find a way to convince Bayern Munich to accept its offer, the defensive midfielder will pack his bags and head home to Portugal for the 2026/27 campaign.
