The quarterback battle in Lawrence has come to an end.
Kansas is set to kick off the 2026 regular season in eight days and now has a starting quarterback.
According to multiple reports on Thursday, Kansas has named redshirt sophomore Isaiah Marshall as the starting quarterback, beating out Cole Ballard. Marshall brings a dual-threat ability under center and figures to be a big part of the run game this season.
Marshall played in nine games last season. He completed all three of his pass attempts for 28 yards while rushing 15 times for 160 yards.
Marshall takes over for longimte starter and fellow dual-threat Jalon Daniels. He spent six years in Lawrence before moving to the NFL where he is currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kansas is looking to return to a bowl game for the first time since 2023. The Jayhawks have turned in back-to-back five-win seasons, bringing up the question of Lance Leipold’s future as head coach. Kansas will begin the season on Friday, Sept. 4 against LIU.
