It wasn’t picked up on the FOX broadcast, but Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai left the game with an injury late in the fourth quarter. He was checked out in the blue tent before heading to the locker room, and after the game, head coach Ben Johnson said it was due to a thumb injury.
Monangai also met the media after the game, and he said he’d find out tomorrow about his thumb. When asked when he hurt it and whether it was jammed, he said: “I couldn’t even tell you. I just looked down at my
hand, and I said, ‘Oh, that hurts.’”
Monangai finished the game with a career-high 30 carries, 146 yards (4.9 ypc), 2 touchdowns (also a career-high), and 1 reception for 4 yards.
When asked about the high usage, he said he loved it. “Coach E [running backs coach Eric Studesville] was checking on me during the game. I said, ‘No, I’m good. Let’s roll. I’m good.’”
Here’s Monangai’s presser with sound bites about the quarterback play, the offensive line, and how they imposed their will on the defense.
