Former UFC middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, was slapped with a six-month suspension as well as a $5,000 fine by Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on Thursday for blowing a gasket and rushing the cage to assault a fighter during the Tuff-N-Uff 145 event last June in Las Vegas.
“Tarzan” can knock 45 days off his sentence by completing an anger management course, according to MMA Fighting
.Strickland, 34, was operating as a licensed cornerman for teammate Miles Hunsinger, who lost to Luis
Hernandez by way of second-round submission. Hernandez directed his celebration at Hunsinger’s corner, which also included UFC middleweight Chris Curtis, prompting Strickland to attack.
Curtis was also hit with a $2500 fine, plus attorney fees.
“Sean Strickland stepped forward. He made this process easy,” Commission chairman Dallas Haun said. “He apologized for his behavior. We appreciate someone stepping up, owning something and then a resolution could be come to quickly and with all parties in agreement. So again, our thanks to Mr. Strickland. He made a mistake and he’s owned it and we appreciate that.”
Strickland (29-7) has not seen action since losing to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312.
